A Wee Tune
To finish off a fine evening of poetry, literature and generally talking sh*te. But before we could get down to the socialising there had to be a bit of pain so's you'd feel like you'd earned it.
We drove out the back road from Fort William to pick up the West Highland Way and then had a 12km run / jog / walk through to Kinlochleven. As my knee doesn't allow me to run I donned binoculars and 500mm lens and had a very slow saunter. RCB blipped a Hooded Crow, which was actually the only bird seen until Kinlochleven. Those (well everyone actually) that had done the trip faster than me were playing on the climbing wall at the Ice Factor, while I made do with just coffee & cake - after all, there's no need for too much pain.
Don't know who actually "won" the race through, but a wee word for Robert who drew the short straw, being the only person who had a mountain bike ended up driving from our drop off point to Kinlochleven, cycling the route in reverse (sea level start!), then driving his own car back to Kinlochleven - with two 45min drives in there he actually took longer than my wee saunter, but he did console himself with coffee & TWO cakes.
Back to freshen up and put on our glad rags. A fine meal, followed by some fine readings, unfortunately not from myself as the inspirational well was dry this year and finally a wee tune to finish off the evening - braw.
