More Experimentation Needed
Having decided that £100+ for a 10+ stop Neutral Density filter was a bit steep to fork out I've resorted to the cheap alternative of Welding Glass (£2.30 delivered from eBay). Today was my first serious attempt at geeting an image using it.
First mistake was to try it out in a roaring gale down at the shore....wind was shaking the tripod like mad so not exactly the sharpest image. Also I think I'll have to try something a bit more permanent and light-proof than Bluetack to fix the glass onto the front of the lens...got a bit of light leaking in around the edges causing flare. You get a really deep green cast from the glass so, even with white balance correction in Photoshop, the technique's is best suited to B&W treatment.
Still I like the effect it gives to the sea with the really long exposure (20 seconds in the middle of the day)....quite different from the normal exposure.
