One for sorrow or two for joy?

Did you know the collective name for a group of Magpies is a 'Tiding'? (correct me if I'm wrong) I can only assume this came about as a result of the song, or the song as a result of the name.

We're blessed at the moment to have a pair who visit the garden, whom I'm hoping will nest nearby as they know there is a source of food. Two for joy as the saying goes, maybe this will be a tiding of a good year? I have to admit, I love magpies, their colouring is so beautiful.

One of them is in the garden again now, attemtping to be stealthy and steal some mealworms I put out.
