Wire Moa, Alford Forest
Heading back from Woodend today, we again took the Rakaia Gorge route. Unfortunately it was a gloomy day - the mountains shrouded in low cloud meant that the expansive views of yesterday were not to be repeated.
I needed a leg stretch after crossing the Rakaia, so a little further on I decided to jump out at Alford Forest to take a shot of these wire moa outside the Alford Forest hall.
These wire moa were made by sculptors Clive and Trich Seddon with the help of the local community in 2000. They're remarkably detailed and exude life - quite ironic for a long extinct giant bird.
