Deserted Beach
This is one of many vast, mostly deserted beaches around the Western Australian island of Rottnest. It got its name because of the rat like creatures, called quokkers, that live there (rott being a corruption of rat).
We saw many of them on our day long visit. They're really cute and tame but because they're a vulnerable species we're not allowed to touch them even though they come up really close - there's a hefty fine of $300 to 2000 AUD if prosecuted!
It's a short boat ride from Fremantle and the ferry company organised bike hire. The bike was in good condition so we cycled all round the island, stopping for photos and visits to the beach for photos and a paddle.
I suppose being relatively near to the Antarctic, I shouldn't be surprised the water - stunning to look at - felt cold compared to Cambodian waters!
