Big Eye
This is a back blip and it's for "Blanchmane" this time last year my cousin ( Oor Jim) and I boarded a coach in Glasgow at 7am ( we had booked a day trip on the Waverley Paddle boat from Oben to the Isle if Staffa) on the coach I was sitting beside a wee Glasgow woman who had booked the journey to get away for the day and the stress of loosing her elderly mother 3 weeks before, sitting chatting she noticed my camera bag and asked what it was, then asked if she could have a look! Mmm! That's a big one, are you a professional photographer? Well I said ( thinking, I'll never see her again) Ive been known to take some cracking pictures, and Im hoping to get them published ( god forgive me) ah! She says, good for you son, Ive only got a wee thing, cost me £30 fae Argos.. It's one of those point & shoot thingys! Well I said I bet you take good pictures with this then! Naw son, Im shit at taking foties, but I'll take a few today, to remind me of my trip & show then to the Granweans! ( grandchildren)
So we arrive at Oben, board the Waverkey and 2 hours later we arrive on the Isle of Staffa! Board a smaller boat to take us on to the Island. We have only 2 hours to take it all in. So off Jim & I go, capturing almost everything we see. Gulls, Fingals cave, wild flowers, the Waverley sitting in the Sea. And then the wee beauties called Puffins, they were very active and flying in and out of their burrows like Superman at supersonic speed! I sat for about 20 minutes trying to get one in flight ( out if focus) so ended up sticking the lens down the burrow & hey presto! This is it lol
The Glasgow woman comes over as we were leaving and says.. What you doing son? Trying to get a picture of the wee puffins! Oh there lovely wee burds ain't they. Do you think I can get a foty o wan? Aye as said, but their difficult to catch, but if you stand there, you should be able too!
Once on board the Waverley and heading back to Oben, I bumped into her again. Oh son! How did your wee burd foties turn out.. Not too bad, so I show her what I caught! Ah they look lovely and with that big camera o yours you got really close up. Thanks a said, but there not really all that good, couldn't get them in flight, a know she said, bloody murder ain't they! So, I said how was yours, did you capture any? Auch aye son a couple, here I'll show you, so about 5 minutes to get her wee Samsung camera out, work out how to view her photos and then.., BANG! You could have knocked me down with a feather! Bloody hell ( I said) these are Brilliant!( Now let me at this point try and paint a picture of her 3 photos, not only did she get close, about 2 feet away, the Puffin was almost posing for her, composition was perfect, lighting was to die for & colour DOF was Perfect!) then shouted my cousin over, we both looked at each other, jaws dropped and said Well Done Mrs you've no idea how good these really are. Auch don't be silly boys, it's just a wee burd! Nae big deal..if she only knew how good these are!
So we chatted all the way back to Glasgow and both Jim & I sent her photos ( she asked us to take a few of her) of her posing on the Isle of Staffa with the Waverley sitting at Sea, so she can prove she was there!
Bless Her : )
Ps. It's not how good or expensive your camera is.. It's how you use what you've got! : )
