Exploring
We had a morning walking to Stockbridge, popping into a couple of shops on the way through town where I got some new bedlinen and a present for T and the elusive topper for my tree (not perfect but it will do!). We stopped for some coffee and shared a Florentine biscuit (reminds me I need to make a batch!), and then browsed the charity shops, looking in vain for some small cake plates for S and for some wool trousers for me…no luck for either of us! At one point I tripped over something crossing the road and the weight of my backpack threw me forward and I ended up sprawled flat out…not hurt but somewhat mortified!
We had some soup/quiche for lunch then caught a bus home, getting off on Lothian Rd to pop into the Futon shop’s sale where S got some lovely plant holders. Home via some antique shops…still no cake plates, then we stopped for some supplies at the supermarket and stamps for Christmas cards. Lovely to have Edinburgh on the Christmas stamps this year!
We settled down to write cards and decided to watch The Quiet Girl streaming on Channel 4’s All4 this month. It’s based on the book Foster by Claire Keegan and is a beautiful, heartbreaking story about a young girl who stays with her aunt and uncle for a summer before returning home. Beautifully made and acted.
For supper we tried out the unusual Indian restaurant Haldi down near Mayfield Gardens. Food was delicious…we shared lamb chops, king prawns, black dhal, rice and naan then had gulag jaman and carrot halwa for dessert. Beautiful, refined cooking and very tasty and it was quite busy for early on a Monday evening. Home for another nail biting Black Doves episode…I can only take one episode a night!
