Thomas, Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway
This was the day that Falkirk could have won the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Championship and, with it, automatic promotion to the Premier League. Admittedly it was a possibility rather than a probability: we would have needed a win and the two teams above us both needed to lose.
My accompanying Blip for the day was not therefore assured, but hoped for.
Earlier in the day I'd remembered that the local steam railway was running 'Thomas the Tank Engine' specials for the May Bank Holiday weekend and thought that, should the league championship not come Falkirk's way, I'd at least have something 'in the can' as it were.
Falkirk duly won their match, but so did Hamilton (by the astonishing score of 10-2!) and, more to the point, so did Dundee. The Blip I had imagined - of the helicopter landing on the pitch at Westfield, or of the trophy being presented to the winning Falkirk team, or of joyous celebrations on and around the park and town - didn't materialise. So Thomas the Tank Engine it is.
Oh well, there's always next season.
