A Neolithic Landscape
Another busy day:-)
Today has been more overcast than yesterday so no blue skies to start the day.
We went through to Stromness this morning but as the Pier Arts Centre doesn't open on a Monday we didn't stay long but headed out to Harray and Fursbeck pottery and the original Harray potter :-)
From here we went through to Finstown and the studio of local artist Jane Glue.
Headed back towards Stromness as we had booked a guided tour round the magnificent chambered cairn of Maes Howe. Photographs are not allowed to be taken inside the tomb but you are allowed to climb onto the grassy mound which forms the outside of the tomb. This is where this shot is taken.
You can just make out the standing stones of Stenness just to the left of the narrow isthmus, the Ring of Brodgar is further to the right and just out of view.
After our visit we headed for Birsay stopping at the Barony Mills .
What a great place I even got a certificate for starting the mill, honest :-)
By the time we got to Birsay the tide had started to turn and we could cross over to the Brought of Birsay by the narrow causeway a lovely way to end our busy day:-)
