Basalt Stack

Was woken up by a tapping on the door by D at 5.30am - there were more northern lights! Not as great a display but still worth getting up to see. We headed down to the beach for some pictures but there was only an afterglow left.

After breakfast we went further long the beach to sake some photos of the stacks - I particularly liked the combination of the misty water and the black rocks.

Our last day in Iceland (sniff!) ended up being quite rainy - we did try again for a shot at Seljalandsfoss but there wasn't really any light so it just came out pretty much as it did before. My last request was to visit the Blue Lagoon (after driving through a volcano crater!) on the way to the airport - thankfully the rain stopped by the time we got there so we could take a few pictures after a coffee. We didn't have time to go in for a dip - and to be quite honest it was so cold and windy I wouldn't have fancied it!

Then it was the sad arrival to the airport, the repacking of the bags and the flight home. However, it was priceless to see D's face when the Captain announced you could see the northern lights from the left of the plane ( we were on the right!). Shame we didn't get to see it as it would have been interesting to see it from the high altitude.

I've got the northern lights bug now... and added to the Iceland bug I think it's probably going to mean another visit at some point. There's still a whole lot of the country I've not seen - and to get the northern lights over the glacial lagoon... now there's an ambition :) I'll be adding to the photo set on Flickr as I process more pictures.
