Experiment...

I was away in Cambridgeshire this weekend visiting friends. They are moving back to Australia after about 8 years in the UK, and although we only see them about twice a year we will miss them terribly! They have twins who are just over 2 years old now, and they are great fun too - we'll just have to watch them grow in photos until we can get our act together for a trip to Oz!

Saturday afternoon we went to a village fete, and then (as tradition dicates) on to the pub. The beer garden was "family friendly" and not full of smokers, so a pint in the sun was just the ticket.

I thought I'd see what happened with the DSLR lenses when you point them at the sun... Not very pleased with the result. The circular diaphram doesn't give very interesting flare. In general this is a good thing, but I occasionally like photographs that use some of a camera/lenses weaknesses to give interesting effects....
