Every nice girl...

One of the things I love about going home to Liverpool to see the family is that my mum and dad always know what "ships are in" and often go down to the Pier Head to see them, so we'll hear their latest report on what vessel has been visiting.

On this trip HMS Liverpool was docked in the Mersey, paying its last visit to Liverpool before being decommissioned next year. So Brome, the girls and I actually had the opportunity to go and soak up some of the maritime atmosphere in the city.

We'd just missed the crew's parade through the streets, but there were still plenty of them about exercising their freedom of the city and Ruby was particularly enthusiastic about getting some souvenir shots.

I took this as we strolled down to see the ship itself. There really is something about a smart uniform.
