Dish Drama
Yesterday I was paying bills and noticed my Dish Network bill went up. Last month same thing. I just switched to Dish from DirectTv last August. I signed up with Dish under a promotion that was intended on saving me money. I had DirectTV for 10 years and no service contract. Dish had a 1st year for $37.99 per month and it goes up after that. My new charges reflect a higher charge so I began calling.
After an hour on the phone and being transferred I talked to a rep. He says that the 1 year promo price can be changed at any time. EXCUSE ME? Oh yes its in their agreement. An agreement mind you that you don't see because you order over the phone or internet. In the US a verbal agreement is just as good as anything. However, in their written agreement that is buried on their site it says they can raise their rates for any reason, at any time.
Currently they are running a 1st year for $29.99 promo. The two men I spoke to said that they don't have to guarantee it. If you cancel before your 2 year contract expires however you have to pay an Early Termination Fee.
I'm disgusted at their false advertising so I made some moves on my own. I reported them to the Colorado Attorney General's office and contacted the News station. I received a voicemail from one of their Exec Mgmt people after she was contacted by the investigative reporter. I also contacted a Class Action Lawyer as I found out online that 1000's of people have had this happen to them. It's about time someone do something about the big business BS that hurts the little guy. I'm just a little guy but I have a loud mouth.
I just found a settlement from 2009 for the same unfair practices. Dish was sued by 46 State Atty General Offices and yet they are doing it still!
