The Circle of Life.....
....and so it begins again. In the last 10 years, successive newly appointed senior managers have conducted strategic reviews of the business and chopped bits off, sold bits on and generally made made people redundant. I've always viewed this as senior manager tinkering to justify their large salaries; rarely achieving much except duping shareholders and unsettling the workforce. I've also never found the process of re-applying for my own job five times in ten years terribly worrying because contractors have to do it every six months, so I view my two year contracts as luxuriously long in comparison. Today, our new dynamic chief executive signalled his first day in office by announcing a strategic review of all businesses in the group, with "no sacred cows".........
.....Moooo!.....I enjoy my job and like the people I work with, but I'd rather welcome someone offering me the chop this time. On current terms and conditions, it would pay off my remaining mortgage and I'm certain I could go contracting on more money than I'm on now, pretty much instantly.
This'll be an interesting blip to look back on one year from now. I wonder what I'll be doing?
