Peak District: Day 1 - Win Hill

Got up at 11.30 after a solid and deep sleep. Cooked breakfast then dodged the rain to walk (from the door!) up behind the Barn towards Win Hill. It was extremely muddy underfoot with lots of little springs popping out of the edges of fields. We rose up quite quickly, with the patchwork green blanket and deep blue of the reservoir below us and sheep aside to keep us company. Through a small wood then a steep climb towards the top, touching the trig point and taking photos to prove we made it!

The weather closed in very quickly and we were glad of our hats, gloves and snug jackets. Unfortunately J's trousers were half soaked by the horizontal hail! A steep descent, cutting off a corner to get home before any more rain, through muddy bridleways. We were soon on paved roads, meandering past cottages and barns up to ours.

2 3/4hours, 4 1/2 miles.

Drove along to Hope village for beer, a newspaper and to scope waterproof trousers for J...

Chicken, beans stew, bread for supper. Wine, chocolate and Scrabble: J wins (1-0)
