Sache

Today we skied the Borsat North en route to the Cairn and Sache valley.
Accessing the Sache we took the high traverse to the col, along the ridge, which gives impressive breath taking views of the drop to the valley floor. We skied the steep big face in deep snow and then ambled our way down towards Les Boisses, exiting via the path of the Wobbly Legged Goat, above the gorge that leads to Les Breviers, and the funky traverse that avoids the dreadful bottom of the Sache 'piste'. We didn't avoid all the rocks that were on the traverse though!

There's been lots of avalanche activity these past two days. Everywhere one looks there are slabs and slides falling off the mountains, many triggered by skiers. A couple have been serious but I don't think there have been fatalities. The professionals have been talking about the unstable conditions for a while, warning that new snow would make for very dangerous conditions, especially on steep slopes of a certain aspect. But people still go and ski these slopes. Mind boggling!
