St Piran's Day

We had another dull day today and a challenge to find somewhere with contrast and light. I was baking fancy chocolate cakes for a good part of the day as it was Fiona's birthday and we had a small gathering this evening. We escaped for a walk late in the afternoon and wandered up towards the Heavens. The poor light gave an opportunity for some long exposure shots of the stream and I like this detail where the rushing water catches the light.

The cakes were more like puddings and went down a treat although there seems to be enough left over to keep us in cake for a good few days. What a shame.

So to St Piran's Day which I've only just learned about I'm ashamed to say, is 5th of March. St Piran is the partron saint of tin miners and of Cornwall. The distinctive Cornish flag is St Prian's flag. I should know this since I'm half Cornish (on my mother's side - a Trethewey) and my daughter Isabelle, who now lives in Cornwall, is quarter Cornish. So Isabelle had a wonderful sunlit blue day in Falmouth today and the sea sparkled as the gig team practised this morning. She also attended a St Piran's eve dance last evening where many of the women wore dresses made from the Cornish flag. Now that would have made a fine blip.
