Probably the tallest mammals in Leith........

GIRAFFES! a people who live between earth and sky, each in his own religious steeple keeping a lighthouse with his eyes

They live up to 25 years and their tongues are blue/black to avoid sunburn. This trait is probably unnecessary in Edinburgh but essential in their native land!

I feel an affinity with these gentle giants, so STRONG yet so FRAGILE. An interesting combination of characteristics, not forgetting the size of their hearts (almost two stone!)

Today was another grey day weather wise but bumping into the giraffes always brightens up the day. These statues are one of my favourites..........they provide an excellent hiding place for a surprise valentine present, although one has to remain vigilant as the odd passerby may be inclined to run off with newly acquired treasures.
