The Old Staircase

Today was a day for a bit of a look round Dunedin. We planned on going to the Sports Hall of Fame at the Dunedin Railway Station then on to the Gasworks Museum out South Dunedin way.
We went to the railway station and it never fails to amaze me just how lovely that building is, a jewel and I hope that the DCC are looking after it and learning all the lessons from the Christchurch earthquake and have it well protected. The Sports Hall of Fame is great and well worth a look then out to the Gaswork Museum we go, its closed:-( The sign on the door says it should be open but alas not, then its back to Mosgiel after picking up Sammy Man from the groomers.

This staircase fascinated me and it got me thinking........

We have these lovely heritage buildings all over New Zealand and should we have an incident as we have in Christchurch currently its fine to talk about rebuilding all these amazing buildings but who has the trade skills required to do it?
How can we assure the heritage of this country and keep the ability required to rebuild with the sort of skill that is required?
I hope some thought goes into this in the coming months........
