Progress?
I think there is a saying that progress is a wonderful servant but a cruel master -or words to that effect. Someone please correct me if I have mangled that one.
In any event, here is my Canon-AE1P which now lies mouldering, gathering dust, at the bottom of a Morrison's carrier bag at the back of the cupboard. Untouched, unloved, forlorn and forgotten. Surrounded by it's once proud companions, wide angle, fast 50mm prime and 70-210 zoom. Now seemingly worthless and destined for landfill, clinging to life only by appealing to sentiment .
I'm sad to say it but I do believe modern lenses are better. Autofocus is spot on and fast, camera sensitivity is is on a completely different scale. The world has changed unrecognisably since I bought my Canon.
A photograph like this or yesterdays would have been unthinkable to me 25 years ago. Now I can have the image published on this website in 90 mins. from start to finish.
It is a different world, and my Canon, in perfect working order, with lenses, flash, filters bag and stuff, that I saved so hard for, that has been with me on holidays, to weddings, christenings and parties is a pile of worthless junk. Cruel but true.
On the other hand, I can now do stuff I never dreamt of.
Fantastic.
