Concrete arrow from the last World War???

There were hundreds of airfields in Britain in the last World War. Our nearest one was at Silloth. Just a few miles away are these sand dunes at Mawbray. Every time we walk Chloe there we come across this concrete arrow! I feel sure it must be to guide the planes in or out of the airfield???

Fresh snow on the highest fells today, with a bitterly cold wind! Come back Spring!

BREAKING NEWS...We have just heard that Mark Weir, owner of the Honister Slate Mine, has been killed. He owned his own helicopter which crashed yesterday. Last year we went to a splendid candle lit dinner in his mine as part of The Keswick Mountain Festival. We also have Honister slate on our kitchen surfaces and fire place.
We often saw Mark in his helicopter. The last time was on Friday as we walked around Buttermere...He has done a great deal to attract visitors to The Lake District.
