Irony
Brief bit of irony today. This sign proclaims the work being done to connect the Bluebell Railway, a steam heritage line, with the mainline station in East Grinstead - the stations will be connected but the rolling stock remains separated. The irony? Well the Bluebell Line runs on track closed during the Beeching Cuts which closed many miles of railway services in the 1960s. But where is the irony? Well the station at East Grinstead, the one to which steam trains will soon run, is where Dr Beeching used to catch the train to his office each morning - he lived in East Grinstead and the railway he axed is coming alive again.
