I think it's a very British thing to find it easier to be self deprecating, than to big yourself up!

I spent the evening filling in the various forms to complete my 'profesional development portfolio'. This involves the filling in forms saying what has gone well, what hasn't and what you're going to do about it! Basically 'it was good that i passed my exams, i had hoped that i would pass them more convincingly and to act on this i wil probably work harder!' And then there is the CV, where my employment section is small and filled with holiday jobs, but my 'work experience' section is glowing!
