Juniper Shield bug
I thought I'd scout the garden for a blip today - especially as life seems to be returning. I went back to my Green Hellebores to see how they were doing and spotted this little shield bug. He was quite difficult to focus on and the picture still isn't great. He was very well camouflaged in the pale green of the cluster of hellebore flowers. He is still there and hasn't minded the attention of a lens above his head.
According to the internet, he's probably a Juniper Shield bug. The British Bugs website says that these are now common in Southern England. It seems that their traditional foodplant is juniper. The larvae feed on the berries. They will also use Lawson's cypress. We don't have either of these in our garden! Hope he's happy in the hellebores.
