Stanpit Marsh

the reed beds are out in force around the marsh , what a beautiful spring day ....... helped me forget the misery of a sporting weekend , Burnley , Bournemouth and Ireland ( although they were robbed ! :-)

Majestically tall the reeds bow to no-one,
except the reed-cutter's blade.
In swathes they are gathered in.
Next summer they will thatch
the blacksmith's cottage
or the roof of the tithe barn.
From dancing on the whim of a breeze
to pinned and anchored under the eaves
of a ancient timber framed thatched dwelling.
