Catherine Lacey: BoyStory

3 in the bed

Who's who?

Not sure if it was Reuben's pulsox monitor, his first cough or Callum asking for milkies that woke me up but the morning then disappeared in a cloud of endless green snotty noses, me closing my eyes for a minute and opening them at the smell of the little poo pellet in Callum's hand, a spinach-tomato-onion omelette which Callum then refused to eat and stay in bed stories. I keep my camera beside me along with some of my many HDs - I get a little paranoid when I'm in this big house by myself, so accustomed am I to a night nurse during the week and lights on during the night so I captured this very early Sunday morning song sweetness, as we read "Wise old man won't you help me please, My house is a squash and a squeeze" and sang a few songs together. Singing all the time is a part of my makeup gained from mum. I guess I pretty much sing every hour of every day. I set an alarm to go off every 2hrs so I remember to feed Reu by gtube on time, otherwise the 2hr intervals creep up too fast. It's what newborn cries were invented for except my wee man's now nearly 4. Reflux translates itself into small and regular gtube feeds.

Unwittingly, there's a theme running through the way I'm processing, even though I'm doing each in entirely different ways. I just find them tranquil right now. Note too, I looked at cropping, but kept as is, enjoying the converging lines and soft white space.

PS: Been meaning to send you Nina's way if you're not already familiar. We met last summer in Helsinki whilst on our Disney cruise and I am aghast at her current entries for her incredible achievements technically and her gorgeous imagery.
