Piggy in the middle
Another porcine-themed blip, this time showing an earlier stage in the trajectory from piglet to plate.
This is son No.2 and his girlfriend- they are participants in a community farm project on the edge of Bristol, where a slice of waste land has been acquired to enable local people to raise animals and grow vegetables. Last year's set of pigs has already been consumed and now this little lot are on their way towards sausage meat. In the meantime these porkers seem very happy in their muddy enclosure where they innocently revel in human attention. Chickens and ducks are also thriving here, with geese and sheep (or goats) in prospect, once more of the bramble thicket as been cleared.
It's hard not to make pets of these friendly creatures but the object of the exercise is to get people involved in the production of wholesome organic food and for carnivores that means facing the fact of slaughter too.
