As much as the picture of a pipe is not a pipe but the picture of a pipe, the interpretation of a photograph is nothing but the interpretation of a photograph. The reader, as in the case of books, ultimately, does with the image what he deems fit.

In an exercise in circularity I once read a book called How to Read a Book. Today I have been reading about reading photographs. Reading too much when I should have been working and when I wasn't at the theatre with that MrSmooth and EcoDad. But in between I did do some work.
