Really hope I'll be forgiven for cheating slightly today. This was taken very late last night at one of the best gigs I've ever been to. The wonderful father of Ethio Jazz (as heard in the movie Broken Flowers), Mulatu Astatke, and his extraordinary band were playing at Band on The Wall. Every one of his musicians individually blew me away, from his passionate cellist to a trumpet player who I would rank alongside the jazz greats. And the man himself standing quiet and smiling in the centre, radiating calm. I smiled so much my face hurt. I did get some lovely front row shots of Astatke but this one had so much motion in it I couldn't resist! Wish I could post two today.
