ARP

This is an Air Raid Warden's whistle from WWII. The Wardens issued three short blasts around the houses before an impending air raid.

I have recorded the sound of this very whistle on audioboo for the enthusiasts.

Having blipped an Acme whistle yesterday I had no idea that I had another one made by the same Birmingham company. But, amazingly, this ARP whistle was made by J. Hudson & Co, Barr St, Hockley, Birmingham! My hometown.

I have a collection of two! Having seen the current Acme website (there's a link on yesterday's blip) I think I will be collecting more!
