Chulo stands next to a hollow stump, the remainder of one of five 75-100-foot trees taken down behind the house today. One giant 140-year-old spruce and two smaller and younger western hemlocks died after being struck by lightening over a year ago. Two other live hemlocks were leaning and had hollow trunks, posing a danger.
