The Eve of the War
It seems totally incredible to me now
that everyone spent that evening as
though it were just like any other
From the railway station came the sound of shunting trains
ringing and rumbling
softened almost into melody by the distance
It all seemed so safe and tranquil
...but still they come....
(apologies to Jeff Wayne)
Beautiful sunshine day blighted by the sound of this monstrosity, not from Mars but almost seemingly as it lumbered it's way along the dyke, apparently to dredge and clean, in reality to break down more trees and destroy the habitat of newts, toads and suchlike. From chainsaw massacre to march of the machine.
