Toilets (Victorian Style)
We had a lovely day walking down Whiteladies Road, eating a West Country Burger at the marvellous Boston Tea Party, picking up the phone that had been dropped and repaired at great expense and later walking up to the Downs to have a juice at the cafe.
This is the cafe. It used to be a rather impressive set of toilets, although they were just that little bit seedy.
The Downs have a bit of a reputation as a cruising area - there's a whole system involving the direction cars face and use of headlights that I don't profess to understand but find fascinating. The seediness is not necessarily related to the cruising but any toilets which have a dual use are bound not to have a spotless reputation I guess
It's still a really impressive building. Would we build toilets like this today? Probably not. There are sites like this all over Bristol. Many have closed, one is operating as an Art Gallery, some are bricked up.
We haven't stopped needing to use toilets.
Hang on? Am I getting on my high horse?
Blip ends..!
Oh yes, the skulls - you know I'm ashamed to say this but I'm not entirely sure and haven't had time to check. Pretty sure Thursday was a dog!
