Life & times of the B-H's

By SarahOberon

the big day....

dawned cold and clear.

Idid snapa glorious sunrise as we left the house at 6.15am to take Alfie into the hospital for his op but this was our day and home (again) for the next 3 days.

We got in at 7.30 and then started the wait.... quick checl revealed he still had a bit of a temperature so we thought game over and back on the waiting list but his surgeon said to wait an hour and re check. So at 9.30 we have another check and he is within the anaesthetists 'safe' zone and get the go ahead thank goodness. Obviously we didn't want to endanger his health by having the op when he was unwell but the reason for the op was why he was unwell.....

Told at that point any minute now and finally at 2,30 he went down, Stuart had to take him in to be put out as I am very allergic to gas and air (passing out or puking on him just prior to the op not the best idea!). Being left alone on the ward was horrible.

He came through well and we met himin recovery before being taken to HDU. Unfortunately he then staerted coughing up clots. The first was normal but the got bigger and then more frequent. At 9.30 pm he got taken back into surgery becasue of the bleeding. He had a bleed on the back of his throat that was running down and clotting in his airway.

He came ut of that well, I slept in a (very comfy) chair in a room with him in HDU and Stuart got a few hours sort of sleep up stairs in the Ronald MacDonald housing we lived in when he was tiny.

A long long day but even with the emergency surgery it was worht it to hear the peaceful breathing from him. Bliss.
