Fishwives!

Another day - and the cough is definitely retreating. Applied more fresh air treatment with a walk along the coast.

This is Fisherrow near Musselburgh. It was once a bustling fishing community. The men fished the West Coast of Scotland for three months and then the east Coast of England for another three. The women - the fishwives aound 90 in number - in their distinctive blue and white striped dresses , sold the fish in town and city streets for miles around.

Fisherrow fishwives were known for their strength and character. They had to be tough. They played golf - and there was a famous annual football match between the married fishwives and the unmarried ones. It seems that the married always won!

I wondered about the name of this boat? Does it describe the state of the owner, or the advantages of sailing?
