Art is everywhere.
It blows my mind how innovative and passionate some artists and performers are. This is why I love Chicago -- art is everywhere. I don't care much for pretentious pieces & performances, but I'm drawn to art that wears the artist's heart on its sleeve, such as this one.
Never in a million years would a bored ostentatious art student build a puppet box, complete with lights and details, and perform on Michigan Avenue in order to make a "statement". They'd do something Warhol-like and try to get their work into art galleries to gain recognition and a few thousand bucks.
Never in a million years would an ordinary beggar do all this work to get money. It's easier to buy an used guitar, sit in one place next to an empty cup, and play music all day.
The person in the box isn't doing it to make a quick buck or to become a world-renowned artist. He is doing it because his heart is in this. He loves puppetry, and he wants everyone to appreciate it as much as he does. This kind of zeal is very rare to come across nowadays, but it's really refreshing and inspiring when you encounter it.
