Survival
Today was the last day, and the most fun of the BOSIET course, this is the section that lots of people fear and as usual for oil workers those who have been through it tend to hype it up, making it sound worse than it actually is.
So after a quick coffee and sausage butty we headed straight for the pool, the morning began with practice of the rebreather followed by some life raft drills, then it was on to the HUET.
We were split in to teams of 4 and performed two drills at a time, the first was simulating a controlled ditching, the first with a breath hold, the second using the rebreather, nothing too stressful as long as you can hold your breath for around 7 seconds, the next drills were the same but the windows in place, again pretty straightforward stuff. The next drills are the one's which most people fear, where the simulator ditches and then turns upside down in the water, again having to do this without and then with windows in place, I actually find this one easier as the air in the immersion suit pins me to my seat rather than floating to the roof as in the first drills, also as long as I held the bottom if the window, which then becomes the top, I find it easier to escape too.
With the fire training complete in the afternoon we were all given certificates and allowed to leave slightly early, so I headed to the gym before popping out for food with Liz.
