Look Closely
Arrived in Calgary today for a few days of work. Light snow but not as cold as it has been and with daylight savings time making the evenings longer, well things are looking up. ;-)
The Calgary airport has some sculpture on display that is quite unusual. This is a close up of a piece called SSSSSSSSSSSSS. It is a series of tall curved cylinders placed side by side on a curving ledge. All in similar tones of colour. They are made of milled and painted bronze. The artist is Greg Payce.
I was taken by the shapes and how, when shot up close, they seemed to nestle against each other, curve on curve. And the optical illusion is very fun. Look closely at the 2 cylinders on the left. Which one is in front of the other? ;-)
Love the stripes going both ways, textural, painted and coming from the composition and cylinders themselves, as well as the shapes.
