Frank Island Sunset

What a day.

It started with pouring rain. Proper rain. The rain that gets you soaked.

The morning was a write off. Although the ducks may disagree. They were enjoying it as they blocked the road we were trying to drive along for around 10 minutes.

In the afternoon it cleared up slightly and we went on a whale watching cruise with Jamies Whale Watching. Honestly, as someone who has grown up by the sea and as someone who has done many a boat trip in my life, I found the whole experience a little uncomfortable.

We headed straight out past the rocky coastline and into an extremely rough area. A good quarter of the boat fell foul of sea sickness. After 2 hours no whales were to be seen so we headed back in.

Once we were in calmer seas we were enjoying the sunshine when the captain got a call to say a whale had been spotted. About turn, to most of the passengers dismay. Back into the stormy seas and back to more sea sickness for some of the passengers.

There was a very surreal moment when Emma was being sick in a paper bag as a giant gray whale flipped it's tail. It was nice to see the whales, however I really don't think the experience was worth it and we didn't see anything we hadn't already seen from the coast.

The day was on a bit of a downer as we headed to Chesterman beach at dusk and caught this beautiful sunset. Suddenly everything seemed good with the world after all.
