Playing at Hampden.
Every wee Scottish boy with an interest in football dreams of playing at Hampden; pulling on the blue jersey, waiting for the crowd to arrive, the noise...
Well, it happened for me today.
Sadly the shirt I pulled on was pale blue, with a slk tie, and although it was Hampden, the lecture auditorium had to suffice.
I did have a big crowd - 200 or so, spread over 2 sessions. What a disappointment for them though - all that way just to listen to me.
N.B. for non football people, Hampden is the home of Scottish Football, a huge ground in Glasgow where the national team plays their home fixtures. It is actually owned by an amateur club, Queens Park. It is a wonderful place to see football, and in 1960 it hosted what is commonly agreed to be the finest game ever played, anywhere! Real Madrid thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in front of about 135000 fans - my father, grandfather and uncle amongst them.
