Buzz And Duct Tape -
- the essentials of every successful space mission!
My space project is coming along nicely, and I recently recruited Buzz Lightyear to be the pilot. This particular Buzz is, at 560 grams, far too heavy (the entire payload will only be 900g or so!), so he'll just be helping with the construction ;-). I have a much much lighter Buzz whose 7 gram body weight and tiny dimensions won't be a problem!
Buzz is standing in front of some sheets of foam polystyrene which he (or I ....) will be cutting up and gluing together to form the walls of the payload. Holes will be cut for the camera and video recorder to see out. This material is used because it's very light and a very good insulator - essential to keep the contents from getting too cold when the outside temperature can be as low as -55 degrees Celcius! The entire assembly (minus holes!) is then covered with duct tape for strength.
