Small Blue Ball

Curtain Call

Day 64
22 Mar 11

At the end of a long day peering at a screen
we walked around the village, to take the air
and shoot the breeze. New green
growth on branches poked through here and there
as we mooched about the lanes and paths.
Thousands of miles away rebels and loyalists battle
for control of a burned out town, missiles
arc through the air like explosive exclamation marks;
while in Japan scientists battle for control of fissile
fuel intent on melting down what is left of hope.
And so back to home where I went to change
and saw the sun sinking like a blood red ball
near our own small blue ball, squashed, strange
almost menacing. Like a final curtain call.
