Rescue from the brink of disaster

Oh dear. What a day! Well day and a half really. It had been going so well, and I was making really good progress and the Tuesday afternoon happened. In the space of two hours, I managed to cause three near catastrophes. But, I learnt some valuable lessons:

Lesson 1: measure twice, cut once.
While attaching the sash to the dress, I got impatient with all the excess fabric and wanted to get rid of it so it was easier to work with. Sensible idea, except I miscalculated the error and completely overcut. There was no way the sash was going to reach the seam. I almost died. I had spent so much time on it! And it would require another metre of fabric. Eek! But, all was saved, as I had plenty of extra at the other end, so I unpicked it (eurrghh) and moved it down. Painful, but SAVED.

Lesson 2: silk is delicate and pins are sharp.
At some point during the major unlocking exercise, I apparently managed to score a rather prominent part of the dress with a pin. Not too pretty. Very visible. This was solved by adding a strip of fabric to cover the pull (see right boob). Deary me.

Lesson 3: measure twice, cut once.
So apparently I didn't learn from my first lesson... More additional 'finishing' strips required.

All in all, I think the emergency additions really finish the look, and I'm actually pleased with them, but the stress was almost more than I could handle! Hopefully I am done with near
