Eye to the Telescope
I had promised to take Claire to the Mills Observatory in Dundee last Friday, however my migraine dictated otherwise.
So I've been watching the weather forecast for the past few days and decided that tonight was the clearest night this week to take her stargazing.
We had a chippy tea on The Law whilst watching a beautiful sunset over the city, I managed to get a few shots taken in between mouthfuls of curry sauce and chips. (classy bird)
We headed of to the observatory, only to discover that the dome wasn't opening until 8pm.
After a good look around at the displays and gift shop and a game or two of trivial pursuit on the iphone, we finally got up to the balcony and telescope where the Astronomer explained the night sky to us.
The atmosphere inside the dome is amazing, even though we shared the experience with a Scout Troup.
We saw the Orion Nebula, where our sun was most probably born, Sirius the Dog Star, and Pollux the twin stars in Gemini and Pleiades in Taurus.
Finally we got the chance to see Saturn and it's moon Titan. We were really surprised just how clear you can see the rings around Saturn through the telescope.
All that is left to say is .....I want one!
