The Judge's Chair
This curious granite sheltered seat is to be found just off the road between the Two Bridges and Dartmeet on Dartmoor. It is situated on the edge of a Bronze Age and Celtic animal pound called Dunnabridge Pound. No one really knows its origins and various people have expounded their theories. Some say the seat, (there is space for two people), was part of the Tinners Parliament from the ancient days when tin was mined on the moor; or an Arch-Druid's seat; a prehistoric dolmen, or cromlech from Celtic times. It is certain that it has been used as a shelter in more recent times. There is a legend that it was moved from a farm a couple of miles down the road - so who knows! There are old prints of it in existence looking very much the same with the stones above the backs of the seats blocking out any cold draughts.
Devon was beautiful with all the camellias and magnolias in blossom, only hope they aren't caught by probable frost next week when the temperature drops 10 degrees!
