It speaks...!

it does too, and very fine its speech becomes. it? the nameless creature victor frankenstein, er, creates in the national theatre's superb current production. no, i'm not back in london - tho i wanted to see it on stage, it had sold out by the time i knew when i could go. no, K and i saw it through themagic of cinema at the cameo in edinburgh.

what makes it a must-see, other than it's the first frankenstein to focus on the creature, and giving him a voice (which he has in the novel but almost never on film)? other than it's danny boyle directing and benedict cumbatch and johnny lee miller starring? hm, well, it's the fact that BC and JLM alternate the central roles of victor frankenstein and the creature (thus cynically boosting ticket sales as many people, myself included, want to see both versions, but still, intriguing idea).

tonight was BC as the creature and JLM as victor, the more intriguing of the combinations - and BC gives great creature, tho JLM is a bit shouty and not quite in the right key for victor for me. stunning tho - so i'm really glad we're coming back next week to see the reverse cast (i'll have finished re-reading the novel by then, too!).
