Dogging and Burning in Fife
Well I never.
The things that go on after dark. Glad I left this place before the sun set in fact.
The last time I think I was ever in here was 1985. It looked and smelled past it even then and, though I can't remember exactly what I had to eat, I remember it being the day I'd been for an interview for a college course at Falkirk Polytechnic and my old man had driven me through in his DEFINITELY 1974 (checked now through DVLA by a friend of the obviously less motor vehicle-savvy brothers than I first thought) Volkswagen Passat. Because he was driving he didn't risk the temptation of any nearby pub so this place was the next best thing as we ventured into a bit of father-son bonding at the time. A rare treat indeed as he treated me to some grub after my gruelling interview (can't remember anything about that at all, but it must've been OK as I started the course later in the year). That was one of the few times we spent any time socialising during my teen years and it's probably why I still remember it. Auld Jimmy would've been 82 years old today.1973 1974 1973 (corrected by younger, more motor vehicle-savvy brother) (corrected once again by another, slightly less younger but equally motor vehicle-savvy brother)
As for the apostrophe laden Pine 'n' Oak today it's derelict and has been for a long time. The only... ahem... wood... seen around here nowadays is of a much seedier type than even this grimy photo would have you believe. Apparently, and I'm only going on what some locals have said and what I discovered after a quick Google on the place, this is a well known stop off for those interested in some activity by the name of 'dogging'. I've no idea what that is but from the other information on the web page - Kincardine Bridge lay-by at Pine & Oak just after the bridge and also @ bathe showroom on opposite side, usually after 10pm - I don't think it's Kennel Club approved.
Nudge nudge, wink wink.
