Movie Making
Since January, there have been 9 or 10 movies made or in progress in Wilmington. The industry is as busy as ever here, due to a generous incentive by the North Carolina government and because of a new sound stage that has a state of the art water unit, made for simulating ocean and underwater scenes. On this dreary day, I was on my way home after unsuccessfully finding something photographic that interested me. As I passed the Dudley Mansion, a film was obviously being made. There were about 10 of these big trucks lining the street.
The Dudley Mansion was the residence of the first governor of North Carolina and is currently a venue for weddings, parties and other such functions. The use of this house for parties is not liked by the neighbors because the sometimes roudy guests, who after a long stint of boozing pee on their lawns. Outside of a bit of inconvenience with the staging, the movie making goes over much better with the locals. Some of them even get stipends for the use of their yards, and their houses for accommodating the crews.
