Menace

This is Gas Mask belonged to my Uncle Alf. I don't suppose he was wearing it when he was shot down but considering it is supposed to save lives, it is a very scary, claustrophobic thing. Naturally I have tried it on, and really cannot imagine how horrifying it must have been to be wearing one, in the dark, bombs going off, or in a trench, or a burning plane, or a trench filled with mud, rats and stench....
We cannot comprehend how very lucky we are.
