The fallen

On holiday in Normandy over Christmas of this year, we naturally visited the cemeteries and other war memorial sites nearby.

My kids were learning about the war at school at the time so seeing these sites really brings it home and 'makes it real' if you like, for a generation that hopefully wont ever see a war on the scale of the past conflicts.

Even at my age, I only ever had grandparents who were involved but I don't remember any stories coming directly from them. Being at this site certainly was still emotional for all of us.
